How many total guests can Lake Champion hold in the dining hall and in the dorms?

A total of 570 people can be comfortably hosted at Lake Champion – 490 in the dorms and the remainder in the Adult Guest Lodge and Assignment Team housing.

Where is Lake Champion?

Lake Champion is located in southern New York, about two hours northwest of New York City. The camp is nestled in the foothills between the Pocono and Catskill Mountains. From I-84, Lake Champion is about 20 minutes from Port Jervis. Check here for directions.

How can I send my kid to your camp?

We do have camp programs for high school students and middle school students this summer at Lake Champion. However, we do not register individual campers here at Lake Champion. Instead all of our camp spots are booked by various Young Life staff from around the country. These staff folks reserve a certain number of spots and then are responsible for promoting, registering, and managing their camp trips. You should probably touch base with your local Young Life staff person and find out when and where they have reserved camp spots.  If you are unsure of which staff person is closest to you, you can let us know what area you are living in and we will find that out which staff person is closest to you.

Is there a minimum reservation number required?

There are three levels of booking: as an exclusive-use group (375+), a primary group (200+) or a secondary group (less than 200). Lake Champion reserves the right to book secondary groups on weekends when there is no exclusive-use group. These secondary groups would share meals and activites with the primary group.

Are you able to host small groups? What if we provide our own meals?

Groups of any size can book the facilities on a week day; however, on weekends the minimum group size is 375 for exclusive use of the property. Groups of fewer than 200 can sometimes be booked as secondary groups on weekends that are already booked by a primary group of fewer than 375. Secondary groups have separate meeting rooms and lodging, but meals and meal times are coordinated by the main user group.

I am ready to reserve a week/weekend ... what is my next step?

Complete a Request Form and Brian Von Bloch will contact you with availabilties. Once an available week/weekend has been agreed upon and a contract has been signed, a Guest Services Information (GSI) packet will be sent to you. The GSI will list contracted and estimated numbers, meal times, store and snack bar times and requested activity rides (e.g. tubing, ropes course, etc.).

What staffing is the group responsible for providing?

Work Crew - To provide support services for the camp in food service and other areas. Please bring a ratio of one work crew person for every 10 guests up to a maximum of 45, including at least one work crew supervisor. Work crew members need to be the same people for the entire stay; please no rotating work crews. Lake Champion does its best to provide a Property Crew for the weekends to provide help with the ropes course, zip line, snack bar and other activities, however, this is not guaranteed. Volunteers may be needed to help run these activities in the absence of a Property Crew.

Will each guest need to bring a "bed roll"?

For a small charge, Lake Champion provides sheets, blankets, pillows and towels for every guest including work crew. Groups have the option to not receive linens.

What is the group expected to help clean up at the end of the week/weekend?

Clean-up includes taking all dirty linens to the laundry, picking up new sets of linens for each bed used in your cabin, folding blankets, clean the bathroom area with provided supplies, picking up and disposal of all trash, vacuum rooms and common areas and putting back any furniture that has been moved.

Will my child be safe at Lake Champion?

Every year Lake Champion is inspected by the New York Board of Health. Every weekend there is a nurse or EMT on-call on the camp property, and several staff members are also RTE (Responding to Emergencies) certified. There are lifeguards for all waterfront activities, and supervision is provided at all high adventure challenges, which are all approved annually by Adventure Experiences, Inc.
